Nestled in the Šar Mountains at 1,700 m, Brezovica is Kosovo's most visited ski resort. Slopes, prices, access and insider tips.

The village of Brezovica sits in southern Kosovo, northeast of the Šar Mountains, in the Lepenac River valley. Sparsely populated yet home to Kosovo's most popular ski resort, this Kosovar hamlet reveals itself as a dream destination for winter sports enthusiasts.

Perched above 1,000 metres in elevation, the resort is nestled amid the region's picturesque landscapes, just a few hundred metres from the village. For decades, it was one of the most beloved ski stations across the former Yugoslav territories.

A Brief History

The Brezovica ski resort was constructed in 1984 as the backup ski venue for the Winter Olympics held in Sarajevo. Before 1999, Brezovica's skiing domain belonged to a Serbian national company. The resort and its Narcis hotel enjoyed strong recognition throughout the Balkans. Officially, it remains Serbian property, though the Serbian state has little appetite to fund a site now beyond its borders.

Despite its golden years, the resort has struggled to attract investors. Infrastructure has fallen into disrepair. In 2015, MDP Consulting, a French group, sought to finance the station's renovation. Unfortunately, the project never came to fruition.

Brezovica Today

Brezovica represents one of the rare places where Serbs and Albanians maintain cordial relations.

The small village of Brezovica is home to roughly 70 inhabitants—34% Albanian and 66% Serbian. Today, the village's ski resort welcomes visitors who share a common passion: skiing. While lift passes once cost €20, pending renovation work has made access more affordable.
